Last weekend, architects gathered in Nida for the annual Recreational Architecture Weekend. The highlight of the event, organized by the A. Zaviša Foundation and known as “Zavišinės,” was the announcement of the previous year’s most outstanding recreational architectural project. This year, the honor went to a new source of pride for Panevėžys – the Stasys Museum art center.
On September 5–6, during the “Zavišinės” event in Nida, Stasys Museum was awarded the title of Best Recreational Architecture Project of 2024. The project was designed by IMPLMNT architects, with architects Greta Brimė, Aurimas Syrusas, Viktoras Gricius, Eglė Gečaitė, Ieva Sirijatavičiūtė, Aurelija Kniukštaitė, Kotryna Bajorinaitė, Jonė Virbickaitė, and Ričardas Bertašius.
This is not the first time the concept of “recreational architecture” in this competition has been interpreted in a broad and inclusive manner. According to PILOTAS.LT, other finalists this year included the reconstruction of Kaunas Town Hall (architects V. Biekša, A. Dovydavičiūtė, L. Janušaitienė, V. Rimkutė, R. Kilčiauskas, M. Kanevičius) and the “Bangpūtis” sailing base (architects Š. Kiaunė, A. Kiaunienė, V. Obolevičius, A. Pipiras, G. Marozaitė).
The jury of the “Best Recreational Architecture Project of 2024” consisted of architects Gintaras Balčytis, Ramunė Staševičiūtė, Asta Prikockienė, Gustė Kančaitė, and Lukas Rekevičius.
The main goal of the competition is to select the best recreational architectural, landscape, or urban project implemented in Lithuania — one that is publicly accessible, emphasizes local identity, and creates cultural significance and social value. The competition also aims to promote and highlight high-quality recreational architecture across the country.
