Cruelty, greed, pride, arrogance, and the many other human vices, character traits, attitudes, and moral notions all contribute to the destruction of humanity and the world, as well as to society’s alienation and dumbing down. Stasys Eidrigevičius captures the moments between intention and consequence, cause and effect. He does not moralize or offer an alternative vision of the world. Instead, his works are sensitive responses to what has happened – and to what might never have happened. They encompass both historical memory and the artist’s personal perspective. Eidrigevičius is moved by global political events as well as, in metaphorical form, by human vices, folly, and self-destruction.

What if Stasys Eidrigevičius had not left for Warsaw in 1980? It was from there that the world opened up to him. But only because he possessed the talent, imagination, and ability to see what others overlook. Eidrigevičius himself seems to exist perpetually in a liminal space – between possibility and outcome, between being a citizen of the world and seeking to preserve his Lithuanian roots.

Stasys Eidrigevičius is an interdisciplinary artist who freely combines different forms and media. The exhibition features his wooden and metal sculptural objects – Crown, Ship, Well, Windmill, and Tower – which extend another of his artistic practices, the ex-libris, with each object carrying its own story of origin.
