Urban Change Pavilion, 2026
Isora x Lozuraityte Studio for Architecture (IXL), in collaboration with Nerijus Rimkus
The Urban Change Pavilion is conceived by Isora x Lozuraityte Studio for Architecture, a practice that brings together urban narratives, material research, and contextual analysis. The project is presented within the context of Panevėžys’ urban transformations: the renewal of public spaces and the emergence of new cultural institutions are shaping an evolving urban identity.
The pavilion is situated between the square of the former Garsas cinema and the newly developing surroundings of Stasys Museum. It is a temporary structure, positioned at the intersection of different urban layers, introducing new scenarios into the public space – from conversations and gatherings to educational activities and evening film screenings.
The pavilion functions as an urban totem, a shelter, and a stage, extending the existing elements of the public space. Its significance unfolds through what takes place within it. This open form becomes a situation in which the city momentarily comes into focus – through its transformations, tensions, and possibilities.
The project is developed in collaboration with graphic designer Nerijus Rimkus, whose visual language complements the architectural structure with an additional graphic layer. The direction of the public programme is shaped by landscape architect and researcher Povilas Marozas, who curates a series of lectures and conversations on the transformation of industrial cities, ecology, and civic engagement.
The pavilion is conceived as a temporary intervention. Following this phase, it will be relocated to another public space in Panevėžys, continuing its dialogue with the city in a new context.
About the Architects
IXL Studio was founded in Vilnius in 2014 by Petras Išora and Ona Lozuraitytė. The studio is grounded in a collaborative practice that brings together architecture, public space, infrastructure, design, art, landscape, and environments of display.
IXL Studio develops projects at a wide variety of scales – from art exhibitions, interior design, and urban furniture to public spaces, buildings, and broader interventions within the built environment. Their practice engages with urban narratives, public spaces, living environments, social and cultural relations, material flow, and experimentation with materiality.
Through a consistent exploration of materials and a strong grounding in contextual analysis, IXL Studio develops architectural concepts that shape sustainable, open, dialogical, and distinctive environments.
About the Designer
Nerijus Rimkus is a graphic designer, publication maker, book artist, typographer, student, carpenter, and father. In his practice, he explores form in response to context and values the opportunity to collaborate with artists, curators, and writers.
Public Programme
Over the past decade, the architecture, public spaces, and cultural and institutional landscape of Panevėžys have undergone significant transformation. The bus station, city squares, and parks have been renewed, while the Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Centre (Stasys Museum) and the creative centre Prãgiedruliai have not only reshaped the city’s image but have also had – and continue to have – a substantial impact on national ecosystems of architecture, urban landscape, and cultural institutions.
At the height of these transformations, the new Urban Change Pavilion hosts a three evening series of meetings and conversations reflecting on the processes reshaping urban space and the cultural environment. The aim of this programme is to consider different trajectories of urban transformations that already took place while also looking ahead: how processes that reshape public and cultural spaces might incorporate citizen initiatives, responsibly address emerging social and cultural tensions, and respond to the rapidly changing ecological environment.
The meetings will bring together creators and administrators who have significantly contributed to Panevėžys’ recent transformations, as well as researchers and professionals working within a broader Lithuanian context and internationally. Each evening of the programme will be dedicated to a specific theme, beginning with presentations by invited guests and followed by moderated discussions.
