Since his school days, S. Eidrigevičius has nurtured a special connection with the icon of Lithuanian art, M. K. Čiurlionis, having grown up surrounded by reproductions of his works. Eidrigevičius refers to Čiurlionis as a kindred spirit, expressing deep respect and gratitude for their shared worldview. Due to this similar outlook on life, Stasys engages with Čiurlionis as an equal in his creative process.

Nature and the world of fairy tales form the foundation of Čiurlionis’s work, while Stasys tends to depict the world through figures and objects in a grotesque manner, revealing its absurd and paradoxical nature. Nevertheless, their works are visually related. Both artists use similar techniques: pastel, tempera, watercolor, and pencil. Their creations are linked by a minimalistic visual language and a transcendent ambiguity of meaning. A depicted figure, object, animal, or bird becomes a symbol that conveys more than what meets the eye. Perhaps for this reason, the work of both M. K. Čiurlionis and S. Eidrigevičius is highly appreciated in Japan. Stasys’s courage to create guided by his unique vision of the world has opened doors to the wider art scene. His name is known from West to East — from the United States to Japan.

S. Eidrigevičius first revealed his close connection with Čiurlionis in 2018 through the exhibition Hommage à Čiurlionis at the M. K. Čiurlionis Memorial Museum in Druskininkai. The exhibition was later presented at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art in Kaunas. Marking the 150th anniversary of Čiurlionis’s birth, the exhibition organized by the Stasys Museum showcases Eidrigevičius’s tribute to the great artist through a much wider selection of works spanning various genres. Among them are masks created using elements from Čiurlionis’s art.
