September 12 at 6 pm, Garsas Cinema Centre, Stasys Museum
The programme follows the gaze of Linas Leonas Katinas as it unfolds through his work, shaped by a personal interest in exploring what lies beyond everyday perception. These are films in which cinema is used to create not so much a narrative, but a state of consciousness. They unfold between wakefulness and dream, slowness and repetition, reality and fiction, and – by cultivating a particular kind of attentiveness – evoke an experience approaching a meditative state. Here, vision does not serve analysis; the image functions instead as a field of experience, where observation becomes a mode of being. The visual language of Tsai Ming-liang, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Bi Gan enters into a quiet dialogue with the sensibility and thinking present in Katinas’s work. The films act as thresholds between experience, perception, and the intuitive – they do not seek explanation or translation into words or other forms of rational understanding. This programme lingers in memory as a series of intuitive impressions and dreamlike recollections.
Perhaps, in this case, watching is closer to a state of presence and wakefulness, where what matters is not so much what is happening, but what gradually emerges.
