Stasys Museum Begins Second Development Phase

2 min read

The Panevėžys City Municipality is launching the second phase of the development of the Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Centre, known as Stasys Museum, with an investment of more than €10.2 million. The project will involve the reconstruction of the building and its adaptation to accommodate a wider range of cultural services.

According to the municipality, the project will be financed through the European Regional Development Fund and is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2028. Around €8 million will come from European Union funding, with more than €2 million contributed by the Panevėžys city budget.

“The signing of the agreement marks a new stage in the development of Stasys Museum. Through this project, we aim to expand the centre’s functions, create more space for cultural events, educational activities and creative work, and make high-quality cultural services even more accessible to the local community and visitors to Panevėžys,” said Panevėžys Mayor Loreta Masiliūnienė.

Following the reconstruction, the centre will feature a versatile multifunctional hall for events, concerts, conferences, educational programmes and other cultural activities.

A coworking space will be created on the second floor, while the third and fourth floors will house additional exhibition galleries designed to meet the highest standards for the storage and display of artworks. The roof level will be transformed into an artist’s studio, providing space for creative work and the production of new artworks.

The project also includes new administrative and support facilities. The basement will accommodate an underground car park with 53 spaces, an archive and additional technical and service areas. The entire building will be fully accessible to people with disabilities.

Modern building systems will also be installed, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, fire detection and security systems, a fixed gas fire-suppression system, rainwater collection infrastructure, and interior and exterior lighting. The project also includes the purchase of technical equipment, furniture and draperies, as well as the installation of a clear wayfinding system throughout the building.

The museum grounds will also be redesigned. The surrounding area will feature a new courtyard with pedestrian pathways and elements of small-scale architecture, creating an attractive, functional public space that is open and welcoming to the city.

Stasys Museum opened in Panevėžys in 2024 and is dedicated to the work and legacy of Lithuanian artist Stasys Eidrigevičius.
