From October 4-6, the exhibition “Traveling Imagination,” featuring Stasys Eidrigevičius’ book illustrations, will be presented in the project zone of the contemporary art fair “ArtVilnius’24.” This will be the first time that the mobile “Stasys Museum” exhibition will be displayed in Vilnius.
The traveling exhibition, which has toured various cities in Lithuania, showcases part of S. Eidrigevičius’ collection of book illustrations that the artist donated to the newly opened “Stasys Museum” in Panevėžys earlier this year. The exhibition includes works created for Vytautė Žilinskaitė’s book Journey to Tandadrika (1984), Jose Murillo’s My Friend the Little Owl (1986), and Rita Repšienė’s Tales of Fairies (2008).
According to the exhibition’s curator, Lina Albrikienė, “The exhibition architecture of the traveling showcase is unique. A house-like structure built from vibrant ‘Stasys-style’ colors and neon lights invites the viewer to explore not only Stasys’ works but also his colorful personality.” The architecture for the exhibit was designed by architect Dalius Baliukevičius. Earlier this year, the exhibition could be visited in Klaipėda, and last year in Tauragė and Ukmergė.
A Meeting with Stasys Eidrigevičius
“Traveling Imagination” can be seen at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Center “Litexpo” on Friday, October 4, from 2 PM to 8 PM; Saturday, October 5, from 11:30 AM to 8 PM; and Sunday, October 6, from 11:30 AM to 6 PM.
On Saturday, October 5, from 2 PM to 3 PM, visitors of “ArtVilnius’24” will have the opportunity to meet Stasys Eidrigevičius in person at the “Stasys Museum” stand.
The international art fair’s project zone, which invites some of the most interesting contemporary artists, galleries, and institutions from Northern European countries, is curated by Lithuanian art critic Dr. Valentinas Klimašauskas, one of the curators of the Lithuanian National Pavilion at the 60th Venice Art Biennale.
Among the participants in the project zone this year, in addition to Stasys Eidrigevičius presented by the “Stasys Museum,” visitors will also be able to see other Lithuanian artists such as Igor Piekur, presented by the “MTR Art Foundation,” Jonas Aničas, Gabija Grušaitė, Rytis Urbanskas, the project of Ukrainian artist Lesia Vasylchenko, who is based in Norway, and Estonian artists Edith Karlson and Katja Novitskova, who represented Estonia at the Venice Biennale, along with other artists and art institutions.
The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Panevėžys City Municipality.
